Rayovac (formerly known as Ray-O-Vac until 1988) is a brand of batteries made by Spectrum Brands of Sandy Springs, Georgia, United States. Rayovac was founded in 1906 as the French Battery Co. in Madison, Wisconsin, United States. In 1930 the company name was changed to Ray-O-Vac, and shortly thereafter the company patented the first wearable vacuum tube hearing aid in 1933.[1] The new company name was an allusion to the then-new technology of vacuum tubes and electron rays.
During its ownership by the parent company of ESB Industrials, a British subsidiary was established to manufacture and market batteries in the United Kingdom under the Ray-O-Vac name. This operation ceased in 1972 although batteries continued to be marketed, although they were manufactured by the British Ever Ready company.
Rayovac changed its name to Spectrum Brands in 2005 after it acquired non-battery related businesses including Remington Products and United Pet Group. Rayovac also bought other battery companies including Varta, Ningbo Baowang, and Microlite S.A.. The Microlite acquision included the rights to the Rayovac name in Brazil giving the company world wide rights to the Rayovac name.[2] Notable consumer battery products include the "Renewal" rechargeable alkaline series, and several types of NiMH (Nickel-Metal Hydride) batteries with recharge times as low as 15 minutes.
In 2004, Rayovac successfully underbid Energizer as RadioShack's battery supplier and now produces the "Enercell" brand of battery sold exclusively at RadioShack.
Hybrid batteries
In late 2006, Rayovac released a new type of rechargeable NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) "Hybrid" battery that claims to blend the benefits of standard alkaline batteries with those of modern rechargeables. These batteries are advertised to hold a charge approximately four times longer than standard NiMH cells. One of the disadvantages of NiMH rechargeables is their relatively high rate of self-discharge, approximately 0.5 to 1 percent per day, while alkaline cells experience negligible self-discharge over time.
These batteries are currently (March 2007) branded "Rayovac Rechargeable NiMH Hybrid with Electron Retention Technology".
These batteries were available at some Walmarts in November 2006; the company website only began listing them on December 21, 2006. They are available in AA and AAA sizes, and currently only in the standard overnight-charge type (no 1-hour or 15-minute quick charge versions). They are claimed compatible with any NiMH battery charger; charge time varies with the capabilities of the charger, but they will NOT quick charge when used in Rayovac's 15-Minute I-C3 charger. The "Hybrid" branded Rayovac charger advertises an 8-hour charge time.
Although "Hybrid" batteries may not quick charge in Rayovac's 15-Minute charger(I-C3) as stated above, testing has confirmed it will quick charge in other third party brand 15-minute chargers such as Duracell CEF15NC. However, there is anecdotal evidence that seem to point to lowered recharge cycles in the order of 15-20% less when charging a NiMH battery in 15 minutes, that is the total number of charges that a given battery will take before its deemed unusable. Most common reason given is stress/heat to the battery involved in charging to full capacity in such a short time. However, quick charging is only one variable and other factors such as usage patterns could also affect longevity of a NiMH battery.
It is ultimately up to the consumer to decide if convenience of a shorter charge interval is a worthwhile trade off for a possibility of a reduced longevity. Unfortunately, until reliable public data is available, it is difficult to judge just how much value is being taken away, especially relative to price.
Similar products in the marketplace include Sanyo's 'Eneloop' Low self-discharge NiMH battery.

The Mark of Excellence is the original name of the logo of the General Motors Corporation. First introduced in 1966, the logo originally included the phrase "Mark of Excellence" at the bottom, and as a decal, it was installed on the door jambs of General Motors' vehicles. This logo also was stamped on the release buttons of seat belt buckles on GM vehicles from 1967 until the mid-1990s.
The phrase "Mark of Excellence" and its appearance on the logo was phased out by the late 1970s.
In 2005, It was announced that small silver emblems of the logo would be applied to the exterior of every 2006 GM vehicle. This was continued into 2007. The only 2007 GM production vehicles without this feature are the Saturn Ion and the Saturn Vue. Both these vehicles are scheduled for replacement in 2008, and in 2008 all GM cars will carry the Mark of Excellence. This practice is similar to that of Chrysler Corporation, which included small emblems of its corporate Pentastar logo on the passenger-side fender of Chrysler, Plymouth and Dodge automobiles in the 1960s and '70s, and again in the 1990s.
The phrase was sometimes used in a derogatory fashion, to highlight common failures on GM vehicles. For example, a large crack that would routinely appear in the dashboard of 1971-76 Chevrolet Impalas and Caprices would be referred to as the "Mark of Excellence".
The "Mark of Excellence" is also an award given by Chevrolet/GM to dealerships for superior sales volume and customer satisfaction.

William "Will" Turner, Jr., also known as Jules Turner, is a fictional character in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series. He is played by Orlando Bloom (and by Dylan Smith in a flashback). Will is a blacksmith's apprentice working in Port Royal. He is in love with the governor's daughter, Elizabeth Swann, although he is of a lower social class. Will is an exceptional swordsman, although he lacks actual combat experience compared to other duelists. Although mild mannered, Will is brave, as seen when he confronts Captain Jack Sparrow in a sword fight and by his response to Barbossa's attack on Port Royal. He is loyal to those he cares about and would risk everything to protect them, especially Elizabeth. This trait is seen throughout the films as Will's character develops more by his reaction to unforeseen circumstances rather than his personal ambition or deliberate choices. Most likely he would have continued plying his trade, never presuming to rise above his current station, pining for the woman he believes he can never have. At his best, Will is clever, heroic, and courageous and never shirks responsibility or leaves an obligation unfulfilled. He can also be preoccupied and brooding and, early on, demonstrated rather simplistic and na?ve views, although he matures and deepens into a complex character as the films progress.

Appearance
Will's final costume in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is reminiscent of Errol Flynn's swashbuckler movie roles. There is also a nod to Douglas Fairbanks when Turner uses his knife to glide down the ship's sail in Dead Man's Chest, just as Fairbanks did in the 1926 film, The Black Pirate.
Will is twenty-years old as the series begins. He has shoulder-length, brown hair, worn loose or tied back in a short ponytail. Throughout the first movie, he wears a puffy-sleeved white shirt, a simple brown jerkin, brown breeches, thick brown stockings and leather shoes with metal buckles. In the second and third movies he wears various outfits including a fine suit and tri-corn hat for his wedding that is typical of upper-class gentlemen. In the second film, he also wore a leather jacket over a white embroidered shirt and, as requested by Orlando Bloom, boots. In both sequels, he is also seen wearing a leather cord necklace with what appear to be charms and other trinkets hanging from it. In the third film, he predominately wears a puffy-sleeved maroon shirt, a black leather vest, and boots. Sometime between Dead Man's Chest and At World's End, Will had his left ear pierced and wears a tiny gold hoop earring throughout the third film. Just after Will becomes immortal, he appears in a green bandana and a bit of blue eye make-up. His hair has changed from slightly oily and curly from the first and second movie to dryer and fuller, possibly the effects of sailing. When he returns from the next world ten years later, in the movie's "Easter egg" scene, he is wearing a puffy-sleeved white shirt, the leather necklace, and a green bandana. He also bears a scar on his chest where his heart was carved out.
In one scene in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl when Turner and Jack are fighting in the blacksmith's shop, there is a glimpse of Orlando Bloom's wrist tattoo of the Elvish word for "nine". Bloom and the other actors except John Rhys-Davies who comprised the nine "Fellowship of the Ring" members in The Lord of the Rings trilogy have this same tattoo to commemorate their...(and so on)

The Prehistoric landmark of Stonehenge is distinctive and famous enough to have become frequently referenced in popular culture. The landmark has become a symbol of British culture and history, owing to its distinctiveness and its long history of being portrayed in art, literature and advertising campaigns, as well as modern media formats, such as television, film and computer games. This is in part because the arrangement of standing stones topped with lintels is unique, not just in the British Isles, but in the world.
Art and mythology

The oldest known depiction of Stonehenge, a giant helps Merlin build Stonehenge. From a manuscript of the Brut by Wace in the British Library (Egerton 3028). Belief in, and depiction of, Arthurian legend was common in this period.
The interest in 'ancient' Britain can be traced back to the sixteenth and seventeenth century, following the pioneering work of the likes of William Camden, John Aubrey and John Evelyn. The rediscovery of Britain's past was also tied up in the nation's emerging sense of importance as an international power. Antiquarians and archaeologists, notably William Stukeley, were conducting excavations of megalithic sites, including Stonehenge and the nearby Avebury. Their findings caused considerable debate on the history and meaning of such sites, and the earliest depictions reflected a search for a mystical explanation.
Earlier explanations, including the view proposed by Inigo Jones in 1630, that Stonehenge was built by the Romans such was its sophistication and beauty, were disproved in the late seventeenth century. It was proved that Stonehenge was the work of indigenous neolithic peoples. From this period onwards artists made images of barrows, standing stones and excavated objects which increasingly drew on highly imaginative ideas about the prehistoric people that created them. These helped to create the image of Britain that a broadening audience was becoming aware of through illustrated books, prints and maps. Poets and other writers deepened the impact of this visual material by imagining ancient pasts and mythologising the distant roots of the growing British Empire. Debates about British ancestry and national identity saw a growing conviction that the British were an ancient people, and that the newly named 'United Kingdom', of which Scotland had become a part in 1707, might find greater harmony through searching for a common past. For the English, this past was to be found in the West, starting around Stonehenge and stretching into the ancient Gaelic regions of Wales and Cornwall.

John Constable's portrayal of Stonehenge
During the early nineteenth century it was artists such as John Constable and J.M.W. Turner who helped to make the megalithic sites a part of the popular imagination and understanding of Britain's past. The philosopher Edmund Burke proposed the idea of the 'sublime' sense as being evoked by 'feelings of danger and terror, obscurity and power, in art as well as life'. This was already a feature of artistic and literary works of the period, and provided the theoretical basis for a growing appreciation of desolate landscapes and ancient ruins. For these reasons Stonehenge became of particular interest for artists. Burke himself wrote
Stonehenge, neither for disposition nor ornament, has anything admirable; but those huge rude masses of stone, set end on end, and piled high on each other, turn the mind on the immense force necessary for such a work.
The very nature of the barren Wiltshire landscape, and Salisbury Plain became particularly notable for the apparently miraculous powers that created Stonehenge. William Wordsworth wrote
Pile of Stone-henge! So proud to hint yet keepThy secrets, thou lov'st to stand and hearThe plain resounding to the whirlwind's sweepInmate of lonesome Nature's endless year.

The S Class submarine HMS Stonehenge
Turner and Constables' paintings deviated from the actual state of the stones. Turner particularly added stones that were not there in reality, and those that were, were incorrect in their dimensions. The paintings were arranged for a romantic effect popular at the time however. Throughout the nineteenth century, a new motive emerged in the depictions of Stonehenge, that of an anti-pagan approach, with paintings by the likes of William Overend Geller, with his painting The Druid's Sacrifice in 1832. In the novel "Tess of the d'Urbervilles" by Thomas Hardy, the main character, Tess, is captured by the police at Stonehenge, the 'heathen' nature of the setting being used to highlight the character's temperament.
The image of Stonehenge became adapted in the twentieth century by those wishing to advertise using a monument viewed as a symbol of Britain. The Royal Navy exploited this sense of identification by naming an S class destroyer and one of their S Class submarines HMS Stonehenge. The...(and so on)

The Ultimate Fighter 6: Team Hughes vs Team Serra is the sixth season of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) produced reality television series The Ultimate Fighter, and premiered on September 19, 2007 on Spike TV, after UFC Fight Night 11. This season features only welterweight fighters (156-170 lb). The teams are coached by former UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra and former welterweight champion Matt Hughes. The coaches were to fight for the Welterweight title after the completion of the show, on December 29th at UFC 79:Nemesis from the Mandalay Bay Events Center.[1], however due to an injury sustained by Serra, Hughes faced top contender Georges St. Pierre on the 29th, with St. Pierre defeating Hughes by submission in the second round and going on to challenge Serra for the undisputed welterweight title at a later date.
Both coaches are participating in a series of TUF for the second time. Hughes was a coach on series 2 and Serra won the welterweight division on series 4, thus earning the opportunity to face Georges St. Pierre at UFC 69.
Unlike in previous seasons, the winner of a match does not determine which team picks the next match. The teams alternate picking matches in the first round, regardless of results, and the team that has the most wins picks the fights for the quarterfinals.

A traditional waistcoat, to be worn with a two-piece suit or separate jacket and trousers

A traditional hand appliqued waistcoat in Ralli quilt design
A waistcoat (sometimes called a vest or a vestee in Canada and the US) is a sleeveless upper-body garment worn over a dress shirt and necktie (if applicable) and below a coat as a part of most men's formal wear, and as the third piece of the three-piece male business suit. Once a virtually mandatory article of men's clothing, it has become uncommon in contemporary dress in the English-speaking world, although it has returned to fashion as part of businesswear in Germany. Waistcoats have now[update] become a popular item of clothing amongst the youth of Britain as style icon Kate Moss and the members of indie band Razorlight wear them over casual shirts and jeans for a day-to-day fashionable look.

Characteristics and use
A waistcoat has a full vertical opening in the front which fastens with buttons or snaps. Both single-breasted and double-breasted waistcoats exist, regardless of the formality of dress, but single-breasted ones are more common. In a three piece suit, the cloth used matches the jacket and trousers.
Before wristwatches became popular, gentlemen kept their pocket watches in the front waistcoat pocket, with the watch on a watch chain threaded through a buttonhole. Sometimes an extra hole was made in line with the buttonholes for this use. A bar on the end of the chain held the chain in place to catch it if it were dropped or pulled. Now waistcoats are worn less, so the pocket watch may be more likely be stored in a trouser pocket.
Wearing a belt with a waistcoat (and indeed any suit) is not traditionally correct. The waistcoat instead covers a pair of braces (suspenders in the U.S.) underneath it, to give a more comfortable hang to the trousers.
A custom still sometimes practised is to leave the bottom button undone. This is said to have been started by King Edward VII (then the Prince of Wales), whose expanding waistline required it. Variations on this include that he forgot to fasten the lower button when dressing and this was copied. It has also been suggested that the practice originated to prevent the waistcoat riding up when on horseback.[citation needed]
Daywear
Waistcoats worn with lounge suits (now principally single-breasted) normally match the suit in cloth, and have four to six buttons. Double breasted waistcoats are rare compared to single. As formalwear, it used to be common to wear a contrastingly coloured waistcoat, such as in buff or dove linen. This is still seen in morning dress, which requires a waistcoat.
Eveningwear
The waistcoats worn with white- and black- tie are different from standard daytime single-breasted waistcoats, being much lower in cut (with three buttons or rows of buttons, where all are fastened). The much larger expanse of shirt compared to a daytime waistcoat allows more variety of form, with "U" or "V" shapes possible, and there is large choice of outlines for the tips, ranging from pointed to flat or rounded. The colour normally matches the tie, so only black barathea or white marcella are worn, although white waistcoats used to be worn with black tie.
Waiters and other servants at white-tie events, to distinguish themselves from guests, sometimes wear grey tie, which consists of the dress coat of white tie (a squarely cut away tailcoat) with the black waistcoat and tie of black tie.
History
The waistcoat is one of the few pieces of clothing whose origin historians can date precisely. King Charles II of England, Scotland and Ireland introduced the waistcoat as a part of correct dress during the Restoration of the British monarchy. Samuel Pepys, the diarist and civil servant, wrote in October 1666 that "the King hath yesterday in council declared his resolution of setting a fashion for clothes which he will never alter. It will be a vest, I know not well how". This royal decree provided the first mention of the waistcoat. Pepys records "vest" as the original term; the word "waistcoat" derives from the cutting of the coat at waist-level, since at the time of the coining, tailors cut men's formal coats well below the waist (see dress coat).
During the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, men often wore elaborate and brightly-coloured waistcoats, until changing fashions in the nineteenth century narrowed this to a more restricted palette, and the development of lounge suits began the period of matching informal waistcoats.

After the French Revolution of 1789, anti-aristocratic sentiment in France (and elsewhere in Europe) influenced the wardrobes of both men and women, and...(and so on)

Synopsis
Georgina (Lynn Redgrave) is a 22-year-old, working-class Londoner. She has considerable musical talent, is well-educated, and has a rather charming if shameless manner. On the other hand, she believes herself to be plain, dresses haphazardly, and is incredibly na?ve on the subjects of love and flirtation; she has never had a boyfriend. She has an inventive imagination and loves children.
Her parents are the live-in employees of successful businessman James Leamington (James Mason). Leamington is 49 and has a loveless, childless marriage with Ellen (Rachel Kempson). He has watched with affection as "Georgy" grew up, and has treated her as if he were her second father. (He provided her excellent education and a studio for her in his own home, in which she teaches dance to children.) As Georgy has become a young woman, however, it is apparent that Leamington's feelings for her have become more than fatherly.
James offers Georgy a legal contract, proposing to supply her with the luxuries of life in return for her becoming his mistress. He also promises to provide for any "fruit of the union". Georgy sidesteps his proposal by never giving him a direct response; Leamington's businesslike language and manner (and awkward inability to express any affection for her) leave her cold.
Georgy's flatmate is her so-called best friend the beautiful Meredith (Charlotte Rampling), who works as a violinist in an orchestra, but is otherwise a shallow woman who lives for her own hedonistic pleasures. She treats the meekly compliant Georgy like an unpaid servant.
When Meredith discovers that she is pregnant by her boyfriend Jos Jones (Alan Bates), they get married; she had not bothered to tell him she had aborted twice before during their relationship. Jos moves in with the two young women. He becomes disillusioned with Meredith and begins to find himself attracted to Georgy (he suddenly kisses her in the midst of an argument with Meredith over her cavalier attitude to her pregnancy). Jos and Georgy begin a secret affair, after Jos admits to seeing Meredith as their lodger and loving Georgy.
Meredith gives birth to a daughter, whom they name Sara, has no interest in the baby and tires of Jos. She announces her plans to put the child up for adoption and divorce her husband.
Georgy and Jos set up home together in the flat, caring for the baby and living as a married couple. It soon becomes clear that Georgy cares more for the baby than having an adult relationship with Jos, though he had already confessed to being pleased he had a daughter on the basis that boys need more from their fathers. The relationship ends when Jos realizes he is of no real importance to Georgy and has tired of a father's responsibilities. Now that Georgy is the sole caretaker of a baby to whom she has no blood ties, Social Services wishes to remove baby Sara from her care.
In the meantime, Leamington's wife has died. (At Georgy's request he has provided for all of the baby's needs, even while she was still living with Meredith and Jos.) Leamington, who was unable to express his true feelings while his wife lived, now finds himself free to express his love for Georgy and proposes marriage. Georgy accepts, but only because this will allow her to keep Sara. The two marry despite the great difference in their backgrounds and ages.

Nickel(II) sulfate, or just nickel sulfate, usually refers to the chemical compound with the formula NiSO4. This highly soluble blue-coloured salt is a common source of the Ni2+ ion for electroplating.
Several sulfate salts of nickel(II) are known, all being paramagnetic. These salts differ with respect to their hydration or subtle structural details. The common tetragonal hexahydrate crystallizes from aqueous solution between 30.7 and 53.8 . Below these temperatures, a heptahydrate crystallises and above these temperatures an orthorhombic hexahydrate forms. The yellow anhydrous form, NiSO4, is a high melting solid. This material produced by heating the hydrates above 330 . It decomposes at still higher temperatures to nickel oxide.[1]
X-ray crystallography measurements show that NiSO46H2O consists of octahedral [Ni(H2O)6]2+ ions. These ions in turn are hydrogen bonded to sulfate ions.[2] Dissolution of the salt in water gives solutions containing the ion [Ni(H2O)6]2+.

Production, applications, and coordination chemistry

An aqueous solution of nickel sulfate hexahydrate.
The salt is usually obtained by dissolution of nickel metal or nickel oxides in sulfuric acid. Approximately 10,000 tonnes were produced in 2005. It is mainly used to for electroplating of nickel.
Aqueous solutions of nickel sulfate reacts with sodium carbonate to precipitate nickel carbonate, a precursor to nickel-based catalysts and pigments. Addition of ammonium sulfate to concentrated aqueous solutions of nickel sulfate precipitates Ni(NH4)2SO46H2O. This blue-coloured solid is analogous to Mohr's salt, Fe(NH4)2SO46H2O.[1]
Aqueous solutions of NiSO46H2O and related hydrates react with ammonia to give [Ni(NH3)6]SO4 and with ethylenediamine to give [Ni(H2NCH2CH2NH2)3]SO4. The latter is occasionally used as a calibrant for magnetic susceptibility measurements because it has no tendency to hydrate.
Natural occurrence
Nickel sulfate occurs as the rare mineral retgersite, which is a hexahydrate. The second hexahydrate is known as nickelhexahydrite (Ni,Mg,Fe)SO46H2O. The heptahydrate, which is relatively unstable in air, occurs as morenosite. The monohydrate occurs as very rare mineral dwornikite (Ni,Fe)SO42O.
Safety
Nickel salts are carcinogenic, and this salt is a skin irritant

History
Adolph Coors and John Herold
Prussian-born Adolph Coors (18471929) opened the Colorado Glass Works circa 1884 to manufacture beer bottles for his brewery, the Adolph Coors Brewing Company, west of Denver. After the turn of the century, the bottle market changed, and the brewery was able to buy bottles elsewhere more economically than making its own. [1] The Glass Works was leased to German-born John Herold, who incorporated the Herold China and Pottery Company in 1910 at 600 Ninth St in Golden. Herold used clay from nearby mines to make dinnerware and heat-resistant porcelain known then as ovenware. The now-abandoned clay pits form the western boundary of the Colorado School of Mines campus. Adolph Coors became the majority stockholder and was elected to the board of directors of Herold China in 1912. John Herold resigned, and Adolph Coors Company acquired Herold China in 1914. The company began producing chemical porcelain in 1915 as a result of a World War I embargo on German imports. Herold China was renamed Coors Porcelain Company in 1920, and the trademark oors U.S.A. was first used. [2] Adolph Coors second son, Herman F. Coors, was named manager. Herman older brother Adolph II was second in command at the brewery.
Rosebud china and Prohibition after WW1
After World War I, one of Coors Porcelain specialties was Rosebud fine china. During Prohibition, the ceramic business was largely what kept the parent company afloat. The original factory site at 600 Ninth St in Golden was the only Coors Porcelain facility until the 1970s, and remained the company headquarters until a new facility was built northeast of Golden in the early 1990s. The 440,000sqft (41,000m2) Ninth St plant consists of several adjoining buildings that occupy four square blocks, and is still CoorsTek largest manufacturing site. Herman Coors managed the company in the early days. Herman younger brother, Grover C. Coors, began the fledgling company foray into ceramic technology by inventing a tool for forming spark plug insulation in 1919. [3] Herman left in 1925 to start the H.F. Coors China Company, a manufacturer of dishes for restaurants and institutional use, in Inglewood, CA.

Aluminum beer cans
In the 1950s, Coors Porcelain parent company investigated the possibility of replacing steel beverage cans with aluminum ones, as part of a closed-loop recycling system. The effort was the brainchild of W.K. ill Coors, the second son of Adolph II. [4] A Porcelain warehouse at the corner of Ninth St and Washington Ave in Golden was selected to house the pilot plant for the aluminum can line. [5] The first aluminum beer can was produced at the site in January, 1959. B.L. ob Mornin, a ceramic engineer at Coors Porcelain since 1954, was appointed manager of can production in 1963, and led it to profitability. [6] The can operation eventually outgrew the...(and so on)

(Redirected from Omni International Mall)

The north side of the old Omni mall parking garage in 2008. The 'JCPenney' can still be seen where the original sign once was.
The Omni International Mall is a shopping mall that opened in 1976 and was the brainchild of developer Tibor Hollo in Downtown Miami in the United States.
It was built around an existing Jordan Marsh store on Biscayne Boulevard and 15th Street in Downtown Miami. Another anchor store, JC Penney, opened on the other end. The mall consisted of two floors called "Upper Mall" and "Lower Mall".
There was also a hotel, which is still active under the Hilton name, and a 24-hour children's day care.
Omni means "all" and it really seems like the concept for the mall was to have everything. The mall opened with a wide variety of boutiques, from mall staples like Florsheim Shoes and Casual Corner to designer boutiques like Emilio Pucci, Givenchy, Lanvin, and Hermes. Two of the more popular bookstores of the time---B. Dalton Booksellers and Waldenbooks---had shops there.
In addition to clothing, shoes, books and accessories, there were also banks, doctor's offices, Oriental Gifts, a tobacco shop, a video game parlor, a Hallmark card store, an art emporium, antique shops, a record store, crafts stores, jewelry stores, home furnishing stores and two movie theaters. There were also a number of restaurants, like Lindy's Deli, the Golden Greek, the Potato Place, and Cozzoli's Pizza. One of Miami's first mall food courts was also showcased at the Omni, a baseball-themed area filled with fast food stands known as "The Ball Park".
One of the more fondly remembered areas of the mall: a children's entertainment area called Treasure Island that featured video games and classic fair games, like ski ball and the water gun shooting-the-clown-in-the-mouth-to-blow-up-the-balloon game. Treasure Island also featured rides, the most remembered being a Florida-themed carousel, which remained in use long after Treasure Island was shuttered some time in the mid-80s and replaced with more boutiques and stores, like Lerner and Lane Bryant.
In the early 90s, Jordan Marsh closed up after being at the site since the 1950s. Many say this was the beginning of the end for the mall. It's a popular belief that the deterioration of the downtown area also contributed to the mall's downfall. A Burdines opened in the Jordan Marsh space, but closed a year later as well. The downward trajectory of the mall started slowly in the early 90s, but took a steep nosedive by the later part of the decade.
By 1999, rumors of the mall's closing started coming to pass, JC Penney was now gone, and Omni was no longer the designer mall of the 70s and 80s. The mall that once housed designer boutiques like Pucci and Hermes was now the site of a dollar store. In December 1999, an Oriental Gifts shop and a Radio Shack, which were present during the mall's heyday, hung on to nearly the very end but closed soon after because by January 2000, only one store remained. The mall closed for good shortly after.
Some say the mall was ahead of its time, especially now that downtown is seeing a resurgence with a recent boom of condominiums throughout the downtown area and the rise of the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, which is a block or so away from the Omni.
In recent years, an art school has taken up residence in the first two floors of the former Jordan Marsh site. And there was talk of demolishing the mall and its multi-floor garage to make way for condominiums and sidewalk boutiques.
There are supporters and detractors for the idea: Some would like to see the massive complex torn down, others would like to see an attempt to bring it back to its glory days with a vigorous refurbishment.
Movie buffs might be interested to know that a small scene in Transporter 2, starring Jason Statham, was filmed in the former mall: It was a scene involving two silver elevators by the school currently in the former Jordan Marsh space. The outside of the mall could also be seen in several episodes of "Miami Vice".
Omni has been a "dead mall" since 2000. Omni's owners have announced different plans over the years for the property, but so far, all have been scrapped before commencement. Despite plans in 2007 to replace the building---owned by Argent Ventures of New York City---with a complex of six towers between 58 and 65 stories tall by 2022,[1] the building is now being given a facelift and being turned into "The Omni Offices" and "The Omni Shops".[1]
Thoughts on Omni
According to a January 16, 2000 article in The Miami Herald: "When the mall was opened in 1976, there weren't as many people in the area as there are now. Now, there are more people and there are many new things in the area. With the right concept, Omni could be even better than it was during its prime." An agimat, intended to be worn with a necklace.
Agimat or bertud or anting-anting, is a Filipino word for amulet or charm.[1] Although stereotyped as a cross, a flat, round or triangular golden pendant accompanying a necklace or a necklace-like item, it is also depicted as an enchanted stone that came from the sky or from the heart of a banana tree. In relation to the latter, it is usually ingested. It is usually accompanied by a small book of magic incantations which must be read during Good Friday or a certain special date to attain the amulet's full power and benefit. An agimat could also be in the form of a clothing with magic words printed on it, or even in the form of edible enchanted mud (in Tagalog, mud is putik).[2] Most of the amulets bear Latin inscriptions into it, and most of the places these Agimat are sold near churches or on its courtyard or in the market near the church, like in Quiapo district in Manila. Filipino fighters also wore anting-anting to battle against the Spaniards and the Americans. Filipino hero Macario Sakay wore a vest that has religious images and Latin phrases to protect him from bullets.[3] Former Philippine-President Ferdinand Marcos, was given an anting-anting by Gregorio Aglipay that could make Marcos invisible.[4]
Anting-anting is also a Filipino system of magic and sorcery with special use of the above mentioned talismans, amulets and charms. It is part of a wider South-East Asian tradition of tribal jewelry, as "anting" in Malaysian means 'to hang', and "anting-anting" in Javanese means 'ear pendant'. Earliest reports of anting-anting are from the records of Spanish priests in the early colonial period. Pardo de Tavera defines the anting-anting as "an amulet, of super natural power, that saves lives." With the Christianization of the Philippines, anting-anting appropriated the forms of the new religion, and incorporated as well the esoteric symbolisms of Freemasonry. An Islamic version of anting-anting exists in the Southern Muslim islands.[2]
In Filipino films, the wearer of the agimat gains superhuman strength, invisibility, heightened senses, self-healing and elemental powers. With it, the person can also be able to shoot or fire lightning via hands, or generate electricity throughout one's body. The person can also perform telekinesis , stop a live bullet, can have premonitions, morphing abilities, camouflage abilities like a chameleon, can have extreme good luck, invincibility or miracle curative powers. In his Filipino films, the actor Ramon Revilla, as Nardong Putik, was depicted to have protection from bullets and slash wounds, provided he eats a certain special mud.[5]
Also, the agimat has been featured in one of Lola Basyang's stories, starring a cowardly man who thinks that his love rival has an enchanted agimat that gives him incredible bravery. The man is courting a woman, so he summons a wise man. The coward is instructed but he is purely afraid, so he never gets the agimat.

Caistor Yarborough School is a mixed 1116 yrs comprehensive school based in the Lincolnshire market town of Caistor.
The school falls within the jurisdiction of Lincolnshire County Council and serves a large area of rural Lincolnshire, with a number of pupils travelling from outside the local authority area to attend the school, including pupils from Grimsby and Scunthorpe. The school limits itself to a maximum of 560 pupils, making it much smaller than the average school of this type in the UK and, as a result, it performs consistently well at GCSE.
Since 2006, Caistor Yarborough School has been designated as a Specialist Arts College.

About the school
Location
The school occupies a hilltop site on the edge of the town of Caistor. Featuring predominantly Georgian architecture, Caistor was originally established as a Roman fortress, due to its excellent strategic position on the North Western edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, and a number of ancient freshwater springs, which would have been the primary water source for the settlement. Now recognised as a valuable historical site, Caistor has numerous listed buildings and two Scheduled Ancient Monuments, one being the original Roman walls.
The school is on the Eastern edge of the town and the main access is from Grimsby Road (A1084) to the North of the site, with the A46 Caistor Bypass forming the Southern boundary of the site. The nearest major towns and cities include Grimsby, appoximately 11 miles North East of Caistor; Scunthorpe, 17 miles to the North West; Louth, 19 miles to the South East and the City of Lincoln, which lies approximately 24 miles South West of the town.
History
Built in 1938, Caistor Yarborough School was named after John Edward Pelham, the 7th Earl of Yarborough. The school is sited near the border of the Brocklesby House estate, the Yarborough family seat, and the landmark Pelham's Pillar is situated a mile to the North of the school. The Pillar is in the grounds of the Brocklesby estate and is an observation tower built as a memorial to Charles Anderson-Pelham, 1st Earl of Yarborough.
Creative Arts
In September 2006, Caistor Yarborough was designated a specialist Arts College, as part of the Specialist Schools Programme, which was established in England in 1995. As part of the schools new status, a Creative Arts facility was built on the school site at a cost of over ?1,500,000. The facilities were officially opened on Wednesday 17 October 2007, by John Godber, a renowned English playwright and Artistic Director of Hull Truck Theatre Company. The new facility houses purpose built studios for Dance, Music and Drama, with a recording studio and other state of the art equipment. For a number of years, the school has also been the holder of the Artsmark award from Arts Council England, achieving Gold level in 2007. The award is in recognition of the high level of arts provision in the school curriculum.[1]
Uniform
Uniform at the school is very simple, consisting of a Lincoln Green sweater embroidered with the school logo (a gold eagle), worn over a white shirt or blouse and a tie striped with the school colours of black, green and gold and tied in a Windsor knot. Male pupils wear plain black trousers and females have a choice of trousers or skirt. All students wear black shoes, with female pupils permitted to wear them with a sensible heel. During the summer months, pupils are permitted to substitute the standard uniform with a plain white polo shirt, embroidered with the school logo in green and gold, with a coloured trim around the collar and cuffs.
The standard uniform for sporting activities is black shorts or tracksuit trousers (in cold weather), worn with either a white polo shirt or a green rugby shirt. The uniform varies slightly depending on the sporting activity and the school has its own colours when competing against other schools in tournaments.
